I spent twelve years studying with Rita Gulliksen. As I began to play more advanced music, I realized that she really wants her students to succeed. From diminished sevenths to rubato, she knows how to teach her students nearly any music, as long as they are willing to work! After two and a half years at an Ivy League school with a minor in music, Mrs. Gulliksen is still one of the best teachers I’ve ever had.

I was Mrs. Gulliksen’s student for 12 years, and throughout it all, Mrs. Gulliksen was a wonderful teacher. Every lesson, I was taught with patience and professionalism. Over the years, I learned scales, arpeggios, music theory, and pieces from all four main periods. Mrs. Gulliksen pushed me to become a better pianist and was very encouraging throughout my time with her.
My daughter has been taking piano lessons with Mrs. Gulliksen for over five years. We’ve been very happy with her high level of expertise and instruction, her love for and knowledge of piano, music theory, correct technique, history, composers, etc. She has been very consistent and reliable over the years, with clear expectations. Our daughter has grown as a pianist, and we are grateful for her growth and the beautiful music in our home!
Mrs. Gulliksen’s home studio is easily accessible off Powhite Parkway/Forest Hill. Lessons are weekly throughout the school year, with more flexible scheduling in the summer. She has been flexible when we have had scheduling conflicts arise. She also offers opportunities to participate in Fall Festival, National Guild Auditions in the spring, and a spring recital
